Parasol artist Chika Higashi started the one and only umbrella shop \u201cCoci la elle\u201d in 2010. The shop came to an end in August 2022.<\/p>\n

All parasols were like art pieces \u2014 each of them was unique, drawn directly on the parasol with white fabric without any underdrawing, and each handle and button were finished one by one. Gradually, Higashi began to draw, experiment with different printing techniques and produce fabrics for umbrellas and umbrella parasols that can be mass-produced.<\/p>\n

This book contains approximately 130 paintings selected from more than 200 drawings Higashi made over the past 12 years \u2014 not only for umbrellas but also for book illustrations, posters, packages, fabrics and accessories. Her joy of drawing is freely captured on each page.<\/p>\n

By capturing the emotions and sceneries of the moment and bringing them to life on a flat surface, the original drawings, which are the core of her creations, have a significant presence \u2014 they are transformed and sublimated in various ways without being bound by the techniques and materials used, such as watercolour paintings, pencil drawings or collages. While this book reminds us of the pleasure of printed reproductions, it also brings to mind the true pleasure of being alive.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I knew it, I have created more than 200 pieces of drawings for umbrellas and\u00a0en-tout-cas<\/em>\u00a0umbrella parasols over the past 12 years.
\nI decided to make a selection and compilation from these original drawings that usually do not see the light of day.
